Deconstructing Materials For Glass Recipes

Bureau de Change has created four tile designs using Lulu Harrison's Thames Glass

Exploring the potential of working with different local and waste materials in glass making and how these can influence glass characteristics.

Testing different glass recipes and seeing glass in its halfway granular state. The semi-fused primary raw ingredients of glass making is how true frit is defined.

During the glass-making process, the initial hot frit may be thrown into cold water where it breaks apart and this procedure can be repeated several times to eventually get to a more glass state. The ground-up frit can also be mixed with scrap glass which would help reduce the overall melting temperature.

It is a circular process as the glass can be continuously re-crushed and re-melted continuously.
